About Mid Autumn Festival
The Mid-Autumn Festival, falling on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, got its name because it falls exactly halfway through the three autumn months. It originated from the worship of celestial bodies by ancient peoples, evolving from the autumn evening moon worship of the ancient times. The ancient customs and numerous myths and legends, such as Chang'e flying to the moon, Wu Gang cutting the laurel, and so on, as well as many factors of traditional Chinese culture, have enriched the cultural connotations of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Scholars and writers have left many poems and essays on this festival, and ultimately, the spiritual orientation of "family reunion" has become the main cultural connotation of the present-day Mid-Autumn Festival.
